My Dogs Killed Something Last Night – What Should I Do?
#1
Went out this morning and found that my dogs had killed some kind of animal during the night. It was a bit of a shock, and I’m still trying to figure out how to handle it. They’ve always been friendly, but I guess their natural instincts kicked in when something wandered into the yard.

I’m not angry at them, just unsure what to do next. Should I be concerned? Is this something other dog owners deal with? I live near a wooded area, so wildlife isn’t unusual, but this is the first time they’ve actually killed something.

If anyone’s experienced this, I’d really appreciate hearing how you handled it. Did you change anything in your routine or training? Or is this just one of those things that comes with owning dogs? Thanks in advance for any advice or stories.

Clean your dog thoroughly, especially around the mouth and paws, and disinfect any affected areas. Incidents like this can be unsettling, but they often stem from natural prey instincts. If your dog is getting older, be mindful of their changing behavior and needs. Understanding when is a Labrador a senior dog—typically around 7 years of age—can help you adjust their routine. At this stage, combining consistent behavior training with appropriate care and attention is key to managing energy and ensuring their well-being.
