Why Switching to an IP PBX System Was the Best Decision for Our Office
#1
I wanted to share my experience in case anyone here is considering moving away from a traditional PBX setup.
Until last year, we were running our small office on an old, hardware-based PBX. It worked… but it was expensive to maintain, tricky to scale, and lacked features our remote team desperately needed. After some research (and a lot of hesitation from our management), we decided to try an IP PBX system — and honestly, the difference has been huge.

Here’s what we noticed right away:
  • Lower Costs: Calls over the internet have significantly reduced our phone bills, especially for long-distance communication.
  • Flexibility: Adding new extensions or users is as easy as a few clicks. No more rewiring or hardware upgrades.
  • Remote Access: Our team members working from home can connect to the same system as if they were in the office.
  • Advanced Features: Voicemail-to-email, call forwarding, auto-attendant… things we didn’t have before and now can’t live without.

We went with a hosted solution, but I know some businesses prefer an on-premise IP PBX for more control. I’m curious — what’s your experience? Did you choose hosted or on-premise? And how has it impacted your business communication?
